Jorge Martin, racing for Prima Pramac Racing, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the 2024 MotoGP™ World Champion. Entering the decisive weekend at the Solidarity GP of Barcelona with a 24-point advantage, the talented Spaniard maintained his composure to secure his first premier-class title, finishing the season just 10 points ahead of his nearest rival. Remarkably, he is the first rider from an Independent Team to win a championship in the MotoGP era.

Martin's journey in motorsport began in 2015 with Mapfre Mahindra, debuting after triumphing in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. He quickly made his mark, scoring his first point at the Qatar GP and consistently placing within the top 15 throughout his rookie season, concluding the year in 17th overall. The following year was a mix of progress and challenges for Martin, who not only secured his first podium in Brno under rainy conditions but also faced injuries that limited his race participation. This resulted in a slight improvement to 16th in the standings at the end of the season.

In 2017, Martin established himself as a top competitor upon moving to Del Conca Gresini Moto3. He began the season with a podium finish in Qatar, earning nine pole positions and eight additional podium finishes, but had to wait until the Valencia GP to celebrate his first victory. That win set the stage for an ambitious 2018, where he dominated the Moto3 category with seven wins and a record 11 pole positions, ultimately capturing the World Championship title. This accomplishment paved the way for his transition to Moto2™ with Red Bull KTM Ajo in 2019.

His rookie season in Moto2™ was challenging, with a slow start marked by several struggles, but he rebounded with podium finishes in Japan and Australia, setting a positive tone for the 2020 season. The year was promising as he notched a Moto2™ win in Austria and was in contention for the championship until he faced setbacks due to a COVID-19 diagnosis, which affected his ability to compete.

The partnership between Jorge Martin and Prima Pramac Racing began in 2021, leading to a remarkable start in MotoGP™. He impressed fans by securing pole position in only his second race and finishing third in the Doha GP. Unfortunately, an accident in Portimao resulted in serious injuries, sidelining him for several races. Despite this, Martin demonstrated resilience by winning the Styrian GP from pole position and achieving another podium the following week.

The 2022 season began with high hopes but proved to be less than stellar, as Martin struggled to find his rhythm. Nevertheless, he managed to secure four podium finishes, though he was still seeking that elusive victory. Entering 2023, he aimed for a more consistent performance, facing a rocky start with two DNFs but recovering with solid finishes, including a win in the Tissot Sprint in France.

As the season progressed, Martin emerged as a strong contender for the championship, often going head-to-head with Francesco Bagnaia from Ducati. He showcased remarkable skill in the Sprint races, winning seven out of nine, and secured multiple Sunday victories in the latter half of the season. However, a DNF at Valencia left him just short of the title that year, adding fuel to his hunger for success in 2024

The season began successfully for Martin, with a third-place finish in Qatar and a decisive win in Portugal, allowing him to take an early lead in the championship standings. His consistency throughout the season was key, with only two missed podiums from Round 5 to Round 18. A return to winning form in Indonesia solidified his status as a title favorite, and a crucial performance in Malaysia further extended his lead over Bagnaia.

Ultimately, with a blend of skill, determination, and strategic racing, Jorge Martin's victory in 2024 marks a significant achievement in his career and a proud moment for the Independent Teams within the MotoGP series.
